Rajasthan in brief

Rajasthan is India’s largest state, with an area of over 132000 square miles, located in the Northwestern part of the country. The name ‘Rajasthan’ literally translates to ‘Land of Kings’. Rajasthan contains the Thar Desert which is also known as The Great Indian Desert. It shares borders with Sindh on the west (Pakistan), and the Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Jaipur (or the Pink City) is the capital of this state and is also the state’s largest city.

Due to the vast expanse of dry land in this state (The Thar Desert), Rajasthan primarily hosts a dry and hot climate during the day time and typical cold desert nights where the temperature drops to pleasant in the summers, and cold in the winters.

Besides royal heritage preserved in its architecture and folklore, and magical tribal folk who embellish the desert landscape with their colourful attire, the state is rich in its bird and wildlife population. The Ranthambore National Park which is known for its preserved tiger population draws wildlife enthusiasts from all over the world.
